What It Is:
Yik Yak is an anonymous billboard messaging app that allows users to post comments to only those who are close in proximity.

Who is on it?:
Mostly high-school and college-age students.

Would My Child Want It?:
It’s basically a pretty popular app right now and is catching steam, becoming increasingly popular in school settings where many people are in close proximity to one another.

Where Can It Be Used?:
On any smartphone.

What Should I Watch Out For?:
This app is a very dangerous one, it’s already been named in some school bullying stories and is banned in some school.  It basically allows anyone to stay anonymous and post things to other people who are close to them without allowing any one to know who posted it.

What Are The Positives?:
There are ZERO positives to this app.

What Are The Negatives?:
It’s anonymous, it’s very controversial and it doesn’t promote a healthy lifestyle of having consequences for your words.

What We Think:
Overall Yik Yak is far too dangerous for you child to have, because even if they are a level-headed kid, it exposes them to the deranged rantings of other kids their age who aren’t. We say pass.
