What It Is:
Phhhoto is an image app that seamlessly connects together consecutive images to make a short video (similar to a GIF). Users can add effects and layers to make images look “hipster and cool.”
Who is on it?:
It’s very popular right now, a very trending app, especially among students ages 12-19.
Would My Child Want It?:
It’s all the rage right now. It’s a really cool form of technology, but it does pose a few dangers.
Where Can It Be Used?:
Anywhere with Cell Phone or Wifi service to upload the finished product to social spaces.
What Should I Watch Out For?:
The consecutive image part is fine, but the only thing that is a parent’s nightmare is that users can connect with one another inside the app, just like Instagram and other social/community apps. Your child might not be doing anything wrong, but the people they follow could be–and that’s where it’s almost impossible to track and monitor.
What Are The Positives?:
It’s very cool technology that makes short videos out of photos very easily, allowing users to explore their creative side.
What Are The Negatives?:
Chatting with other users unsupervised, inappropriate images, and possibly your kids meeting strangers.
What We Think:
We would say it’s a cool app but always be talking with your kids about wisdom and tell them you will be looking through their phone on occasion.
